Island Wellness

Small steps toward healthier lives, together.

Introducing the Island Wellness Program

At Mama Anita’s Farm, we believe wellness is more than food—it’s about how we live, care for ourselves, and care for each other.

We are beginning conversations around an Island Wellness Program designed to support healthier individuals, families, and children across Eleuthera—in ways that feel realistic, supportive, and rooted in everyday island life.

This is not a program being launched overnight. It’s something we want to grow together as a community.

WHAT WE MEAN BY “WELLNESS”

When we talk about wellness, we’re thinking about:

  • Getting regular checkups and preventive care
  • Eating nourishing, balanced meals
  • Staying active in simple ways like walking, swimming, or gardening
  • Teaching children healthy habits and hygiene
  • Making time for rest, family, and friends
  • Finding balance between work and life

Wellness doesn’t mean perfection.

It means small, intentional steps that support long-term health.

A FAMILY & COMMUNITY FOCUS

We’re especially mindful that:

  • Parents carry a lot
  • Families are busy
  • Work is demanding
  • Life on the island requires resilience

This wellness program is being shaped to support:

  • Adults and seniors
  • Parents and caregivers
  • Children learning healthy habits
  • Families finding balance together

Children learn health by watching adults — how we eat, rest, move, and connect.

WHY BALANCE MATTERS

Health isn’t only about appointments and exercise. It’s also about:

  • Rest
  • Time with family
  • Friendship
  • Joy
  • Saying no sometimes

Working hard matters — and so does stepping back when needed.

A healthy community is one where people are supported, not burned out.

WHAT WE’RE EXPLORING (COMING LATER)

As this program grows, we’re thinking about introducing simple tools such as:

  • Easy wellness checklists
  • Family-friendly activities
  • Gentle challenges focused on habits, not competition
  • Ways to celebrate participation and progress

Nothing is set in stone. We’re listening, learning, and shaping this together.

AN OPEN INVITATION

For now, we invite you to simply:

  • Think about your own wellness
  • Talk with your family about healthy habits
  • Take a walk
  • Share a meal
  • Schedule a checkup if it’s been a while
  • Rest when you need to

Small steps matter.

The Island Wellness Program is about community care, balance, and long-term health.

We look forward to growing this thoughtfully — together.

A Simple Daily Wellness Rhythm

Wellness doesn’t have to be complicated. Sometimes, it’s the small, consistent habits that support how our bodies feel and function each day. Here’s a gentle daily wellness rhythm many people find helpful as part of a balanced lifestyle:

  • Start the morning hydrated – a glass of water (with or without lemon) helps wake the body.

  • Prioritize protein at breakfast – supports energy and helps you feel fuller longer.

  • Move after meals – even a short walk can support digestion and circulation.

  • Enjoy green tea – often used as a midday pick-me-up.

  • Stay active – workouts are commonly easiest to maintain in the morning or early evening.

  • Refuel after movement – including protein after activity supports recovery.

  • Keep dinner lighter and earlier – many people find this helps with sleep and digestion.

  • Drink water throughout the day – steady hydration matters more than all at once.

  • Manage stress intentionally – stretching, breathing, prayer, or quiet time all count.

Wellness is not about perfection. It’s about listening to your body, building habits that feel sustainable, and making choices that support your overall well-being.

As always, individual needs vary — especially for those managing health conditions or medications. What matters most is finding what works best for you.

A Year of Small Steps Toward Better Health

Why a 12-Month Wellness Approach?

Wellness isn’t something that happens all at once — and it doesn’t need to.

The Island Wellness approach is built around the idea that small, steady habits practiced over time are more realistic, sustainable, and meaningful than short-term challenges or strict programs.

By focusing on one simple wellness theme each month, we create space to:

Learn
Reflect
Practice
Adjust
And grow — at a pace that fits island life

There is no checklist to finish and no goal to “complete.”

Each month is simply an invitation to focus on one part of health.

Designed for Eleuthera

Life on Eleuthera is unique. Resources can be limited, schedules are full, and community matters. That’s why each monthly theme is:

  • Low-cost or no-cost
  • Accessible to all ages
  • Grounded in everyday life
  • Flexible for families, elders, and individuals
  • Rooted in outdoor, community-centered living

No equipment. No gym memberships. No tracking or reporting. Just awareness and intention.

How the Monthly Themes Work

Each month, we highlight one wellness focus, such as:

  • Walking
  • Hydration
  • Rest
  • Family time
  • Preventive care
  • Mental wellbeing

You can participate by simply:

  • Noticing your habits
  • Making small changes where possible
  • Talking about wellness at home
  • Including children in age-appropriate ways
  • Supporting one another as a community

Some months will feel easy. Some months may be harder—and that’s okay.

Wellness is not about perfection.

Wellness Includes Balance

This program recognizes that:

  • Work is important
  • Family responsibilities are real
  • Caring for others takes energy

That’s why rest, balance, and connection are included as essential parts of health. Taking time for yourself, spending time with loved ones, and slowing down when needed are not luxuries—they are part of staying well.

A Family & Community Perspective

Wellness doesn’t happen in isolation. Children learn healthy habits by watching adults.
Families shape routines together. Communities thrive when people care for themselves and each other.

The monthly themes are designed so that:

  • Parents can model healthy behaviors
  • Children can participate naturally
  • Elders are included
  • No one feels left out or judged

This Is a Living Program

Island Wellness is not fixed or finished.

It will:

  • Grow slowly
  • Adapt to community needs
  • Evolve with feedback
  • Expand thoughtfully over time

As the community becomes more familiar and comfortable, additional tools or activities may be introduced—always gently, always intentionally.

The Heart of Island Wellness

At its core, Island Wellness is about this: Caring for your body, your mind, your time, and your relationships—one small step at a time.

We invite you to walk this year with us—not rushing, not competing, just living well together.
